Bountiful Beloit 2023 CSA Member Agreement:
Section 1. Introducing Our CSA Farm
A. Becoming a Part of Our Farm (Bountiful Beloit, 950 Wisconsin Ave. Beloit, WI 53511)
We, the farm, wish to provide you with fresh, local, seasonal food and you, the member, wish to receive a portion of our harvest. This agreement outlines our shared commitments to that relationship.
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a relationship between our farm and you as our customer. Rather than simply purchasing food, our customers become “members” of this CSA farm who receive a portion of the farm’s harvest.
Our CSA runs for 24 weeks, from May to October. Members are responsible for showing up at our farm store, Bountiful Beloit, 950 Wisconsin Ave, Beloit WI 53511 each week or every other week (depending on share size) to pick up your share of freshly harvested produce. You will generally receive a 3/4 bushel box of vegetables and, occasionally fruit, equivalent to about 2 grocery bags of produce. Detailed information regarding pick-up is discussed below in Section 3. Variety and quantity may vary as described below in Section 2. Extra weeks may be available for purchase separately after the main season is over.
B: Our Growing Practices
The farm is not certified organic, but we do grow organically. My husband, Raul, has worked since the year 2000 on certified organic vegetable farms in the stateline area and we use the same ecologically-responsible practices on our own farm. For more information about what organic production means to us, please ask. We’d be happy to tell you more!
C: The Products We Expect For 2023
We currently grow over 50 different kinds of vegetables and herbs through the season and supplement occasionally with up to 10 different kinds of locally-grown fruits through the growing season. Each picture below this member agreement is a real-life example of our box contents from our 2021 season to give you an idea of how the quantity and selection can vary through the season.
Section 2. Our Shared Commitments
A. Sharing in the Risk of Crop Failure
We promise to do our best to provide you with a bountiful share each week. The quantity of produce, however, may vary from week-to-week due to extreme weather, insects, or other production factors despite our best efforts. By joining our CSA, you are agreeing to share the risk of crop failure with us and other members. In the unlikely event of a crop failure, our procedure is as follows:
If only a small portion of crops fail, we compensate for the failed crops by filling your share with other crops grown on the farm that are ready for harvest at that time. We may cover for a crop loss by buying in from other local farmers or organic growers. This may not be a feasible option for all crops because of cost or widespread failure.
For example, in the spring when what’s available from our farm is mostly fresh greens, we buy in organic potatoes and rhubarb to supplement the box and provide a better CSA experience for you.
B. Sharing in the Reward of Crop Surplus
In addition to our CSA, our farm sells through our own retail store and to local restaurants. Although production is not segregated, our CSA receives priority. After filling our CSA share with the week’s harvest first, the remainder is sold to our other markets and a portion is also donated weekly to local food pantries.
Section 3. Picking Up Shares
You are responsible for picking up your share each week (or every other week, depending on the share size you order) from our storefront, Bountiful Beloit, located at 950 Wisconsin Ave, Beloit WI 53511. Pick up times are from 10a-6p on Saturdays.
You are responsible for observing our pick up rules, which are as follows:
- Return last week’s empty box every week.
- Pick up your share within the timeframe stated. Although we deliver high-quality produce to the site and we have a cool place to keep it, it can decline quickly if not picked up in time.
- If you cannot pick-up your share, you must arrange for someone else to pick it up for you. You are responsible for explaining the pick-up location and procedures to your substitute. Shares that are not retrieved within the pick-up time will be donated to a charity or food pantry. Please contact me here at the store to ask about picking it up the next day yourself if you can’t be here on pickup day. We take the safety of your food seriously. While we do field-wash your produce, for your added protection, wash all produce before eating.
Section 4. Member Fees
By selling membership in advance of the growing season, CSA reduces the burden of up-front costs for the farmer. Your membership fees provide us with money to purchase seed and equipment before the season starts, and we appreciate your commitment. 2023 CSA Share prices, payable in full or as three installments are as follows:
- $720 – A full season share (total of 24 boxes picked up weekly)
- $396 – An Every-Other-Week Share (total of 12 boxes picked up every other week)
Please click here to pay in full online and to sign up for the share type you would like.
You may instead choose to pay the membership fee by check, in person and/or by installments. Click here to print out this member agreement to fill out and sign and then return by mail or in person at our storefront with either a check for the full amount of the share or with 3 checks: Each check should be for 1/3 of the share price. The first check should be dated today, the second check should be dated June 1, 2023, and the third check should be dated July 1, 2023. We will hold the second and third checks for you and cash them on those dates.
All payments are non-refundable beyond the fourth week of the season.
